Alopecia UK Event
At the end of September I had the pleasure of attending the Alopecia UK’s Big Weekend in Bristol. Alopecia UK are a national charity in the UK that supports people in the UK with Alopecia. They hold a special event every year that brings people with the disease together from all over the world for a weekend of education, support and entertainment.
I’ve personally suffered with the autoimmune condition since I was a child, so I understand the challenges that sufferers face. Losing your hair can negatively effect your self-esteem and impact on your mental health so ‘Wonderful Me Workshops’ seemed a perfect fit for the event. My sessions promote self-love and positivity using the mindfulness of creativity which can prove extremely beneficial.
I ran two workshops during the day; one for children and one for adults. Everyone grasped the concept and completely engaged with the activity creating some wonderful artwork.
I was also invited to close the event (huge honour!) so I prepared an illustrated poem based on my personal story which I shared with an audience of 300 people. I received such a warm, fantastic reception and people came up to me afterwards to tell me how much my story had resonated with them and inspired them. I’d like to say a big thank you to everyone involved in organised the event, inviting me to take part and all the brilliant people I met. It was a weekend to remember!
